‘Home’ By Zena A. The movie Home is a very emotional movie. The main characters are Tip (her nickname), Pig (cat), and Oh (alien). Oh sent a message to EVERYONE in the galaxy! There is a monster, Gorg that is mad at the Boovs (aliens). Tip is on a quest to find her mom and Oh joins the quest and hopes to save Earth. I would rate this movie nine out of ten stars. This movie is great for all ages. This movie teaches us to never leave family behind. You have to go through a couple of nightmares before you capture the dream.             - Anonymous ‘Arthur’ By: Renee G.  Did you know that Arthur books are really educational? They teach you lessons and you will learn from them. Arthur books are 2nd grade level. If you want to read more books you can go to PBS Kids which is a channel for kids.  Well, if you run out of Arthur books and your school is out you can watch Arthur on PBS Kids. Some of you may have cable and some of you do not have cable. The channel it’s on is IPTV. Some of the books or IPTV episodes of Arthur are really funny. I give this series 10 out of 10 stars. As you  start reading the Arthur books you will learn the characters and lessons. Here are the characters of the story and also on the Arthur show on PBS Kids or IPTV: Arthur, DW, Buster, Brain, and many more. World News By: Megan H. More than 5,000 people are dead and 10,900 have been reported injured four days after a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal. Tens of thousands Nepalis have weathered terrifying aftershocks for days, slept in the streets and hunkered down as teams worked to dig out survivors. According to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, the earthquake's death toll could climb to 10,000 or higher when the recovery phase is completed, ‘the Guardian’ website reported. And on the world's tallest mountain, dozens of avalanche survivors required rescue after the quake triggered a deadly slide that killed at least four Americans. http://www.weather.com/news/news/nepal-earthquake-latest-news Dance By: Kaity L., Natalie A., and Caroline E.        The Spring Dance on Friday, April 24th, all the kids had lots of fun. The DJ was Jason White. He played many great songs like ‘YMCA’, ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’, ‘Uptown Funk’, and ‘The Cupid Shuffle’. Anyone was able to request a song, but they had to write it down  on a sheet of paper. There was a professional photographer named Shawna Kurth who took pictures of kids that filled out a form for photos. They had juice and cookies for snacks. To get the snacks, Mr.Davis called classes and they were able to go get their snacks. Many students came, and teachers did too. They have the dance every year. It was a great experience. Don’t forget to go next year!	Star Wars By: Isaac S. Star Wars is a  six episode series by George Lucas. It is about special people called Jedi. Jedi work towards peace throughout the galaxy. A mysterious thing called ‘the force’ helps Jedi along their way through the stars. You can watch it in order of chronology, or in the order the author wrote them (four, five, six, one, two, three). I would do it in the way the author wrote it. I would rate this series nine out of ten stars because it involves a lot of action and adventure. Enjoy yourself on your path to become a Jedi Master! May 4th is ‘Star Wars’ Day!!! The Fifth Grade Field Trip By: Elsa P. The fifth graders recently took a trip to the Herbert Hoover museum. They got to see the birth and burial place of President Herbert Hoover. They toured the home that he lived in until age 10. They also toured replicas of his father’s blacksmith shop and the school that he attended. They were shown a video about Herbert Hoover and then they toured the museum, where they had access to lots of interesting facts. The museum also had places to watch videos throughout displays. The fifth grade was very lucky to be able to visit this museum. ‘Maleficent’ By: Kaelyn P. Maleficent is my favorite movie because I love all the magic in the story. Another reason I love this movie is because this story has 2 bad guys and they are really bad and not just a little bad. I think the characters are wonderful and the actors are magnificent. Angelina Jolie is a wonderful actor and I hope she stars in more movies!!! Some people think that the bad characters will always be bad but this story is the opposite. Maleficent is good, then bad, then good again. The enemy is good, then bad for the rest of the story. I give this movie 10 out of 10 stars.   Dance Competition By Leah H. On April 18-19, the Cooling Dance Center had a dance competition led by Joan Cooling. One of the two teams did a dance to Bring me a dream. The dance routine “Bring Me a Dream” received high gold and a runner up awards. Shellsburg Starz By Ms. Brunssen Caroline Erickson, Jozee White, Natalie Armstrong, and Isaac Stadelmann have been the leaders and organizers of the Shellsburg Shockers Newspaper. They have dedicated much of their free time to making sure that this newspaper is ready to print by the deadline. When Caroline Erickson came to me with the idea of publishing a school newspaper, I wasn’t sure how far she would take her idea. With the help of her team, the “Profs,” her idea became a reality. Together, they developed a plan and presented it to me, the principal, and all 4th and 5th grade classrooms. They worked hard to compose a system to fairly “hire” additional writers, artists, and editors. Now, each week they mentor their peers to publish a newspaper twice a month. This project is A LOT of work! I am continually impressed with all four students' work ethics, teamwork, and creative ideas.	Terriffic Teacher By Zoe M. This week’s Terrific Teacher is… MR.DAVIS! Mr. Davis is a very nice, funny, intelligent, and caring guy. He is always ready to lend a helping hand. He is always there when you need his advice. He gives the best assembly announcements and it is very hard not to love a guy like that! Look for the last  edition of Shellsburg Shockers on May 18th! Lego Movie By: Zena A. The Lego Movie is very colorful and interesting. Personally, my favorite part is when Emmet does his jumping-jacks, then he says “I’m so pumped up!” and starts doing many more jumping-jacks. Also, at the end the dad is President/Lord Business and President/Lord Business/Dad softens up and gets the antidote (which is water) and un-kraggled all the Lego people and buildings. If you have played with or seen Legos, you will probably understand the jokes. I would rate the Lego Movie 10 out of 10 stars! Advice By: Seven B. Here are some things people have been asking me. I don’t have a lot of friends and I want some more for my birthday party, any advice? Well, I know a few people that are very nice and friendly. They are; Zena Aragon, Jozee White, Leah & Megan Hendrickson,Caroline Erickson, Renee Gram, Kaity Lewis, Kinzzy Miracle, Treighton McGlothin, Jack Swanson, Chase Rippel, and Jordyn Brownell.  If you are scared and don’t know how to make friends then I’ll tell you how to.  You should just be yourself. My friend has always been nice, but lately has been mean to others.  What should I do?  I don’t want to lose my friend. If I were you I would tell your friend how you feel. Since you don’t want to lose your friend then you should tell him or her that you hope this doesn't ruin your friendship and if it does then try and find someone else. Extended Forecast By: Megan H. The weather for May 4th is going to have a potential of a thunderstorm. The day’s high is 72 and a low of 49. The weather for May 5th is going to be a little cloudy with a high of 75 and a low of 44. It is also going to be a very good day for fishing. May 6th is going to be mostly cloudy with a high of 72 and a low of 54. It is going to be an okay day for fishing. May 7th is going to have some rain leading to showers. It will have a high of 74 and a low of 47. It is going to be fair for running outside. May 8th is going to have some clouds with some afternoon rain. It will have a high of 56 and a low of 38. It will be a good day to go outside and enjoy the outdoors. Now the weather for the weekend. May 9th is going to be sunny and warmer, with a high of 65 and a low of 48. If your family is one that likes going out on your boat, here is your chance. It is going to be a very good day to go out sailing. May 10 we are ⅓ over with May. May 9th is going to have a high of 69 and a low of 52. It is going to be a good day for biking.

3D Printer By: Elsa P. Have you heard that the school got a 3D printer? Do you have a lot of questions about it? In a recent interview with Mrs. Gates I’ve attempted to learn a little bit more about the 3D printer. The 3D printer got here on April 8th. When asked whose idea it was to get a 3D printer, Mrs. Gates replied that it was hers, Mr. Davis’s, and the PTO’s. The 3D printer seemed like a necessary thing to have so that the school can do more new things with technology and create what they imagine right away. The 3D printer can do some pretty cool things. It can create almost anything you can imagine. The school has already printed a couple things with the printer such as a small traffic cone, a 3D dinosaur puzzle, and are in the middle of printing a holder for some of the plastic. This could really improve the way children learn at shellsburg elementary. ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ By: Renee G. I have read all of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series.  It is a really funny book, here are the characters of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.  Characters are Rodrick Heffley, Greg Heffley, Rowley Jefferson, Patty Ferrell, Frank Heffley, Manny Heffley, Chirag Gupta, Susan Heffley, Gammie, Mrs Canfield, Mr Jefferson, and Fregley who is digging for “gold”. Jeff Kinney who is writing the story is Greg Heffley.  Everything that happens to them is a little funny.  Like the book “Long Haul”  is that they take trips around the state.  One time Greg sleeps in the closet and smells something really weird.  He finds out that it is his brother’s sock that is being smelly.  Another time was that Greg loses the key to the water park and they can’t find it to open Frank’s swimming locker.  They try to find the key but Greg finds it in one of the pockets.  He thought that if he flushed the key to the swimming locker they could forget about it and Rodrick could be in huge trouble.  I give this book ten out of ten stars.  They are fifth grade level reading books. It is going to be very very cloudy with some showers. The 25th of April is going to have a high of fifty-five and a low of 35. There is going to be some morning showers. The twenty-sixth is going to be a little cooler with a high of fifty-six and a low of thirty-three. It is going to be mostly cloudy. The 27th is going to have a high of 55 and a low of 33. It is going to cloudy with some showers. The 28th is going to be cloudy with a high of 56 and a low of 41.

Track Meet By: Leah H. This years track meet is the Local Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Meet (replacement of the Hershey Track Meet). On Saturday, May 9. You can enter if you are fifth-fourteenth years of age. The five,six,seven, and eight year old will not advance to state. The nine-fourteen year olds will advance to state if you get first in your race. The field events you can do are the  standing long jump and the softball throw. The five-ten year olds can do the fifty meter dash. The five-fourteen year olds can do the one hundred meter dash. The seven-fourteen year olds can do the two hundred meter dash. The nine-twelve year olds can do the four hundred meter dash. The eleven-fourteen year olds can do the eight hundred meter dash. The thirteen-fourteen year olds can do the mile run. Then the nine-fourteen year olds can do the four-by-one relay. ‘Oz The Great And Powerful’ By: Zena A. Oz The Great And Powerful is a movie that helps you to know how Wizard of Oz started. When you watch Oz the Great and Powerful you can make connections to the Wizard of Oz. When I was watching Oz the Great and Powerful the moment when "wizard" help the little China girl (doll) when she was crying and not too long after it she was determined to go with the wizard. I would rate it seven out of ten stars. I like the movie and would watch it any time also, the movie is magical and inspiring at any age. Weather Around the World By Megan H. Terriffic Teacher By Zoe M., Kinzzy M., and Miles E. The terrific teacher this month is Charlene, the librarian associate. She has been here for eleven years. Charlene has always helped out anyone that needs help and she always makes the library fun and safe. She is also very responsible. She is always calm with us and very patient. Look for the next  edition of Shellsburg Shockers on May 4th! Jump Rope For Heart By: Jaden R. and Leah H. Jump Rope for Heart started at the beginning of April.The meaning of Jump Rope for Heart is for people who have disabilities with their hearts or just heart issues. What you do is go around your community and ask for donations. It depends on how much money you earn to determine how many different prizes you get. Then each class, third through fifth put together a jump rope routine to a song of their choice. Then on April tenth, each class presented their routine at the assembly.Then the teachers had a jump rope contest Mrs. Franks won. I like how Daniel Hughes played the part of Meghan Trainor in Mrs. Franks routine. In life, there is never a dull moment…. when you have a sharp pencil. - Caroline Erickson Advice By: Seven B Here are a few questions I have answered: What will 5th grade be like? 5th grade is normally fun no matter what, but that depends on how you act. You’ll have fun if you listen to what your teacher says. What will fourth grade be like? Fourth grade will be fun and If you don’t get yourself into trouble you’ll have a better year. What will we learn in 4th grade? You will learn many new things in 4th grade. Some might be in math, others might be in reading. But that depends on what you know. Remember you might get taught what you already know. Add more advice in the box and it will show up in the newspaper.
